Echo Co. truck load 60mm mortars fall 1967

Postby mr billwilly » Thu Jun 10, 2010 5:56 pm

This is a nice clean load of Echo Company 60 mm mortars heading to the Con Thien area in the Fall of 1967 or making the move to Carroll. I talked to these fellas all the time but I do not know anybodys name. A few of the same faces are shown dug in on Hill 37 in February 1968. Be bold and identify your selves.

The Marine in front with the glasses looks like Russ Russell and the one with the watch on looks familiar too. But I don't think they were in mortars, maybe 3rd platoon.

It is my guess that the two fellas in the truck without helmets are the two in the rear mortar pit on top of 37. Also in the truck one of the occupants has a 60 mm mortar. I think I recall seeing a lot of the marine in glasses which would indicate he was 60mm mortars. I have been told that those not in the mortar pits on hill 37 are from the third platoon. It is very likely that the truck has people who were not mortarmen. I was in truck and was Echo FO Sept thru Feb.

I took the picture of the truck load. I was on hill 37 when the hill picture was taken but did not take the picture and stole it from this site. If you took the hill 37 picture let us know what you know.

Thanks for your response willie.

Russ Russell in his post about his book says he was with Hotel company I think. These Marines were with Echo Company.
